The Phanek Pareo!

Hey!

I am so excited to share this outfit with you!Like you know, I love to dress up and try out new ways to wear clothes. I was wearing this red phanek(read about the phanek here) at home when I started experimenting ways I could tie it instead of simple wrapping it around my waist. Being beach season, I thought, why not tie it as a sarong? So I pulled out two ends of the phanek(wrap skirt) tied the two ends together mid way and played around it a bit, tying it like a Hawaiian pareo! I love draped dresses and this kinda created a new silhouette too with the temple borders! I especially love the little flap it creates. Being silk and starched, it worked keeping the silhouette in shape! Sigh!! If only I could stitch!

A little note about the ring now! It is actually a vintage scrapbook sticker (from Michaels!) which I stuck to a plain ring to create this beauty!How did I do :) ?

Playing dress up!

I picked up this chiffon dress some time back while shopping in India ..It is slightly lengthier than I would have preferred but I loved it because of its simplicity-a simple deep V-neck with fine smocking detail on the empire waistline and the neckline. Since it comes across as pretty plain, I tried pairing several necklaces with it before I settled for these two that I have worn together. Since the necklaces are chunky, my earrings are simple studs.

I have been looking for the perfect satin tie up heels but the hunt has been in vain...so, I decided to create my own pair :) I bought some satin ribbon from Michaels and cut it into two equal pieces. I simply tied it around my ankles-I also tried curling it underneath the sole, around the heel and tying them around the ankle. And here they are:my very own pair of satin tie up heels! To break the monotony of color, I accessorize with a snake print over-sized clutch.

Today I look out to the far nook of North East India, to be inspired, yet again.

I am wearing an embroidered tribal wrap, typical to the hilly states of the region. I mastered(ok well maybe 89% ;) ) the art of wearing the wrap, recently during my stay in Manipur. I paired it with a broad belt and a lace neck detail top and contrasting white peep toe pumps, to go with my lace parasol.
If you ever visit the north East of India, you'll witness the understated, coy and  modest style of its people, creating a gentle wave, yet to be truly discovered as a fashion tribe.

Life is Pink!

Today I'm sporting pink and florals -the ideal 'girly' combination for summer. I love my pink pumps and to add a new twist to it, can you guess what I did to them?? Of course!I added little bows! Black bows seemed perfect for this pair of pumps!  I wanted to use different colored bows but these black ones have been so versatile! .....So voila!A new pair of shoes created :) If you're ever bored with your shoes, go ahead and experiment-The DIY world is your stage!

I've added satin ribbons, feathers, lace and modpodged them with glitter(I am soon going to be road testing them for the blog!- so wait for it!).  I am all for re-using, up-cycling and mixing n matching to create new outfits,looks and shoes without spending much! So go for it you gals!

Bow thong sandals

I saw this cute pair of bow thong sandals online and got immediately obsessed! I have loved bows since I was a little girl, when I went to school with little ribbon bows on my ponytails and plaits :) Remember how I used these little black bows earlier?(See here , here and here). Here they go onto the thongs!

 A little about the pendant..My notorious little Ginger somehow climbed the couch and got to this beautiful Turkish Nazar wall hanging which I picked up from Istanbul long back to decorate my home. She chewed up the tapestry, while I salvaged this little piece that remained from the spoils. Huh!It's so difficult to have pretty things at home :(  Anyway, pretty Ginger is still quite a handful but we're blessed to have her!

One shirt, four ways

I have been wearing my favorite plaid button down in different ways. Here are a few ways I have been sporting it around. I have layered it with a simple V neck sweater(and added a bow to it ;) )-(remember how I've used bows earlier?? :) see this and this ), worn it with a military jacket, layered it with a racer back underneath and worn it tucked in a skirt. Tribal Inspiration

Ok ok..I  wear these boots everywhere, but remember? can't wear heels yet because of my 'still healing' foot :(  But see I added bows! :) Remember my trench with the bow(here) (I also used them here)..am obsessed with bows right now! Clipped these onto the boot loops with hair clips :) .

The shawl is a hand woven shawl from the hills of Manipur, India ; a traditional tribal shawl.  Manipur, like other North East Indian states has numerous tribes native to its state. Each tribe has a trademark pattern woven into its shawls. One can only imagine the numerous designs and patterns that exist given the diversity of cultures in the region -there are hundreds of these little known tribes! North East India is a true treasure trove of art, design, fashion and style.

Its been cold and windy in the bay area and wrapping myself in warm and thick shawls has been the way to go ;) . Do they have 'Lazy fashion' style guides? Do I qualify lol?

A trenchcoat as a dress

Why not? One could use a classic swing peacoat as well for this look. And oh, the bow doesn't come with the trench. I added it! I picked it up from Michael's- the craft store and pinned it to the lapel of my trench with a hair clip and Voila!I have a trenchcoat with a bow!(see how I've also used bows here and here) I am planning to do this all the time now-with satin ribbons,sequinned bows-on shoes, handbags! Experimenting ahoy!! :)
