A trenchcoat as a dress

Why not? One could use a classic swing peacoat as well for this look. And oh, the bow doesn't come with the trench. I added it! I picked it up from Michael's- the craft store and pinned it to the lapel of my trench with a hair clip and Voila!I have a trenchcoat with a bow!(see how I've also used bows here and here) I am planning to do this all the time now-with satin ribbons, sequinned bows-on shoes, handbags! Experimenting ahoy!! :)

It's time for ginormous boots aka uggs!

When I first came across Ugg boots, I thought they were really cute but wasn't too sure whether I would ever wear them outside of the house. I thought they were ideal to lounge around the house-comfortable and warm. However that notion has changed recently. Besides being super comfy and perfect to step out as the temperature drops(it was zero degrees(C) in the morning today!), I find that paired right and weather-appropriately, they can look pretty adorable!;(also it provided perfect TLC for my sprained foot -another reason I'm wearing them out now).

The best part about Ugg boots is you don't have to shell out a 150$ to get a pair! They're available in all price ranges and many brands carry their own version of them. Whether in chestnut, sand, black, chocolate, grey(there are a variety of attractive colours like mint, baby pink, blue , sparkles etc as well)or in classic short/tall or the bailey button style, choose a style and colour you love. I bought these chestnut uggs from shoedazzle.com at a fraction of the price. They're super light and oh so cozy! Another colour I would love to have is the sand and baby pink versions! Will collect all the colours one by one, but for now I am snug and happy with these :)

Here I am pairing them with light blue jeans, a simple sweater which I've had for a while(I got these from Moreh-a border town between Manipur, India and Myanmar-an absolute shopping haven for the latest styles and fashions trending in South-East Asia ) and a pashmina stole wrapped around me, put in place with a brooch. What say? :)

Traditional Manipuri finery

We have a decently numbered Manipuri community here in the bay area and we got together for a feast called the 'Ningol Chakouba'. The festival is similar to 'Bhai Duj' as known in most other parts of India. Its a beautiful concept; married women are invited by their brothers for a feast. It is a time for sisters to get pampered with gifts and a lavish spread of food items. It is one of the major festivals in Manipur.

It is a time for us women to dress up in traditional finery and look our best!It is of course a big deal!Going back and meeting all your folks again is very looked forward to, and eagerly waited for all year.

For an experience away from home, I chose to wear this hand woven silk stole in golden yellow, draped in traditional style and put in place with a brooch. I think yellow suits me no?The stole(called a phee in Manipuri)(read more about it here) comes in beautiful colors and looks ethereal on women during weddings and festivals. The wrap(called a phanek-this design in particular is the mayek naiba) is also hand woven and is tied at the waist,  also a classic piece(both the phee and the phanek are made in many beautiful, bright colors)-it could take a while to wrap it right :).  I paired the outfit with jewellery , designs which are very original and unique to Manipur.

Closet Raid

Over-sized sweaters are another recent craze. I don't yet have one but that isn't going to limit me from sporting the trend :)..I raided a friend's closet for a big cozy sweater. The trick to going androgynous is to keep the rest of your look girly. Paired with some pumps (or booties) and  accessories, its perfect for a simple, casual and comfortable look. Its ideal for a quick trip to the grocery store or for running errands.

Shorts and stockings

Long shimmer cardigan and Satin Camel blouson-Mango;Scalloped lace skort-Ross; stockings-Forever New; Satin pumps-Nine West;Bag-Charles & Keith; Cocktail Ring-Moonstruck, Mumbai

This is one trend I have always wanted to try. These scalloped lace skorts were a steal-girly and fun! The black stockings kinda help flatter my figure too so it had to be done-black is a curvy gal's best friend!!Black stockings with black pumps seem to lengthen my silhouette, adding height to my frame. Would have so loved to do this with black booties too(have been looking for the perfect pair for sometime now)!!So until I get a pair, I think I'm going to be sporting this with the pumps :)

Bohemian Rhapsody

Jasmine pants are a staple in my wardrobe for lounging around the house..Parallels, harem pants and jammies included. I have always wanted to wear this pair of floral ones when going out and dress it up in a way that was not too OTT.

I have had a love affair with all things Kashmiri for a long time now-the costumes, the jewellery, the food, the Dal lake, Srinagar.. just everything about Kashmir-one of my favourite places on earth!. Kashmiri embroidery is as beautiful, colorful and pretty as Kashmir itself. This Kashmiri jacket is another piece I've had with me for a long time.

I wanted to do justice to both these pieces of clothing, as pretty as they are; so I combined them in this outfit while I was experimenting. I loved it!Did you?
